Greta at City Hall Fri, Nov 1, 2019 from noon to 3pm for Youth Climate Strike Los Angeles
Youth Climate Strike LA is thrilled to host Greta Thunberg for a Climate Strike with youth climate leaders on the frontlines of California’s fossil-fueled climate emergency! Despite its green reputation, California remains one of the largest oil-producing states in the country. And while Los Angeles claims to be a global leader on climate change, there are very few cities on earth with so many active oil wells dangerously close to where people live, work and play. In neighborhoods like Wilmington and South Los Angeles — low-income communities of color already overburdened by pollution from freeways and other dirty industries — children and families experience disproportionately high rates of asthma and suffer from severe nosebleeds, headaches, reproductive harm, and headaches associated with a long list of toxic chemicals used in oil extraction.
Join Greta Thunberg and youth leaders from Los Angeles and across the state as we demand Governor Newsom and California’s elected leadership act immediately to roll out a 2,500-foot health and safety buffer, stop all new fossil fuel project permits, and drop existing oil production through a just and equitable transition!
A handful of fossil fuel industry executives are poisoning our communities and threatening our future— the time to act is now. Will you join us? Meet us at the West Steps of City Hall at 12 PM.

Permaculture Design Certificate Course with Larry Santoyo/Permaculture Academy: 6 weekends beginning October 5-6, 2019
More details here.
The Permaculture Design Certification Course Ready To Skip The Revolution And Create The Renaissance? The principles of Permaculture are commonly associated with a rural or agrarian setting, but they are applicable everywhere. It is an adaptable set of problem-solving and decision-making ethics based on the patterns and systems of nature. When we use this approach it creates a fundamental shift in our attitude, towards how to create innovative and sustainable solutions of abundance rather than scarcity and crisis.
At The Academy we forward students’ understanding of the field of scientific sustainability.
We promote:
… Thoughtful Decision-Making
… Creative Problem-Solving
… But Reject “One Size Fits All” Solutions
Our Design Course uses the garden as a metaphor for learning how to balance ecosystems, building business enterprise, and establishing community resilience within an urban landscape.
The Permaculture Design Certification Course is our flagship program. More details here:
Note: Some classes may be held at Los Angeles Eco-Village. Watch for details.

About Alexandria
Alexandria Levitt is a gerontologist, specializing in Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships around Senior Cohousing. She wants to develop housing for people that doesn’t just show off a “lifestyle” imagined by corporate developers but one that reinforces the qualities that help us most as we get older – friendship, community and purpose, as initially created in Denmark. As a gerontologist (USC, MS, 2011), Alexandria is very familiar with the many challenges facing us as we get older and the remarkable connection between health (both mental and physical) and social engagement. Alexandria leads workshops on “Aging & Thriving with Cohousing” and informational presentations on Senior Cohousing in the area. Her goal is to move the needle in the direction of cost effective, appealing, environmentally-friendly housing that can be home for all active, engaged adults. Alexandria is a member of the Senior Citizen Commision of South Pasadena, California and President of the nonprofit SAGE Senior Cohousing Advocates.
